Thursday 5th January 2012 - En-route to South Georgia - Sunny with some cloud.

Today was a travel day and there were lectures lined up for the whole day.  After breakfast was Doug on South Georgia natural history, which was really interesting.  Following him was Dag with Shackleton: The man and the Ice.  That was incredibly interesting and he had some great archived photos to show us.  After lunch I had a nap and then had a one on one lesson with Tom on why you should overexpose all your photos and showed me how you can change them in lightroom.  It was really quite interesting.  Rod did a lecture just before dinner on photo tips for South Georgia.  After dinner I briefly started watching the South Georgia Visitor Briefing video but got bored and was tired so went to bed.  I have now managed to suss out people on the ship and 30 out of the 97 of us are repeat customers.  I have no idea how these people can afford it but obviously they earn much more money than I do.  There are a lot of doctors, lawyers and professional photographers on board.  Initially I didn’t understand why you would go somewhere twice when the world is so big, but after seeing the Falkland Islands I can now see it.  It really is a beautiful part of the world and I think travelling down her becomes an addiction – people just have to keep coming back year after year.
